About

Golf in Argyll and Bute

Argyll and Bute offers some of Scotland's most dramatic and unspoiled golfing landscapes. Machrihanish, at the tip of the Kintyre Peninsula, features a legendary opening hole - a blind drive across the Atlantic beach that Old Tom Morris called the finest opening hole in golf.

The Machrie on the Isle of Islay provides a unique links experience on an island better known for whisky, while newer additions like Machrihanish Dunes offer an eco-friendly, natural links that lets the land dictate play. Island courses on Colonsay, Gigha, and Mull offer the chance to combine golf with exploration of Scotland's stunning west coast.

This is rugged, windswept terrain where golf feels like an adventure. The landscape ranges from coastal machair to dramatic sea cliffs. The west coast receives more rain than the east, so waterproofs are essential, but the scenery and solitude more than compensate. Late spring through early autumn offers the most reliable weather.
