About

Golf in Argyllshire

Argyllshire offers some of Scotland's most dramatic and remote golf. Machrihanish, on the Mull of Kintyre, features what many consider the finest opening hole in golf - a blind drive across the Atlantic beach that has thrilled golfers for over a century.

The Machrie on the Isle of Islay provides unique links golf on an island better known for whisky distilleries, while newer courses like Machrihanish Dunes offer natural links that let the land dictate play. Island courses on Colonsay, Mull, and elsewhere provide the chance to combine golf with exploration of Scotland's stunning west coast.

The terrain is rugged and wind-swept - true links land where golf feels like an adventure. The west coast receives more rainfall than the east, so waterproofs are essential, but the scenery and solitude more than compensate. Late spring through early autumn offers the most reliable weather, though dedicated golfers find rewards in any season.
