About

Golf in East Lothian

East Lothian has earned its reputation as Scotland's Golf Coast, with an extraordinary concentration of world-class links courses along the Firth of Forth. Muirfield, home to The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers - the oldest golf club in the world - has hosted 16 Open Championships, most recently won by Phil Mickelson in 2013.

North Berwick West Links, with its famous Redan hole that has been copied worldwide, offers one of golf's most enjoyable and quirky experiences. Gullane's three courses, Archerfield, Renaissance Club, and Dunbar complete a stretch of links that rivals any golfing destination globally.

The terrain is pure links - firm, fast-running turf, strategic bunkering, and ever-present wind from the Forth. The climate is surprisingly dry, sheltered by the Highlands from the west coast rain. May through September offers optimal conditions, with particularly magical evening light in midsummer. This is a golfer's paradise just thirty minutes from Edinburgh.
