About
Golf in Nairnshire
Nairnshire, though small, punches well above its weight in golf. Nairn Golf Club is one of Scotland's finest links courses, having hosted the Walker Cup in 1999 and the Curtis Cup in 2012. The Championship Course offers a classic out-and-back links layout along the shores of the Moray Firth, with views across to the Black Isle and Ben Wyvis.
The town of Nairn has been a golfing destination since the late 19th century, when the railway brought Victorian visitors to enjoy the town's beaches and bracing air. The Nairn Dunbar course provides an excellent alternative, offering another quality links experience just along the coast.
The terrain is classic Scottish links - firm, fast-running turf through gentle dunes, with gorse adding definition and penalty. The Moray Firth coastline enjoys a surprisingly dry microclimate, sheltered from the worst Atlantic weather. Late spring through early autumn provides optimal conditions, with long summer evenings allowing rounds well into the night.
